You can open the calendar app and tap on inbox at the bottom right to see any recent invitations. I also had a corporate exchange calendar i was syncing when the issue showed up. Iphone icon size my calendar was stuck and, instead of closing it to fix that issue, i removed it from my homescreen. If i search for the app, search will find it.

So the problem appears to be that calendar on my macbook pro is not syncing with icloud. I had the same issue. My launchpad calendar icon is stuck on july 17 also. So i rebooted into safe boot and ran a command line utility in terminal. The problem is only on the icon (see screenshot).

Notification badges for calendar typically indicate an invitation to add a shared event to your calendars. When i went to the app library and put the calendar back on my home screen, the icon came back 4x the size of all the others. Find the calendar app, hold down and drag it back to your home screen. If i open the app the calendar is showing correctly the day. My launchpad calendar icon is stuck on.

It Sounds Like You've Moved The Calendar App To The App Library.
My launchpad calendar icon is stuck on july 17 also. This fixed the problem while in safe boot and then displayed today's date as expected. If i search for the app, search will find it. On your home screen, swipe left until you reach the app library.
And There Is No Way To Turn It Off Or Remove It.
